High school students visiting the USF IDEx Lab participated in a hands-on tour of digital archaeology tools, where they were introduced to photogrammetry and Artec 3D scanning technology used to digitally document cultural artifacts. After demonstrations by lab staff, the students were able to try the equipment themselves, capturing images for photogrammetric reconstruction and using handheld Artec scanners to create real-time 3D models. The experience gave them direct insight into how these technologies are used to preserve archaeological materials, generate accurate digital replicas, and support research without physically altering or damaging fragile objects. The tour highlighted how modern technological methods are transforming archaeological research and heritage preservation.
